Development of High Early Strength Connections for Accelerated Bridge Construction

Category: Ongoing Projects
Group: Materials
Subject: High Early

Abstract:

The main objective of the proposed research project is to develop and validate concrete mixtures that are capable of developing high early strength without detrimentally affecting its long-term durability. The concrete mixtures developed in this research are intended for use in accelerated bridge construction in New England, so concrete will therefore be subjected to the environmental and operational conditions encountered in the region (freeze-thaw cycles, use of deicing salts, and concrete placement at low or high temperatures). The proposed research team has the ideal qualifications for this project given the expertise in concrete materials and structural testing (see Section 11) and previous successful implementation of research results into practice. The team will actively seek practical input from the NETC Technical Committee assigned to the project and the Bridge Tech Committee from PCI Northeast. Involving DOT, professional, and industry representatives in the research will facilitate the implementation activities at the conclusion of the research project.
